Wash Day for Kids✨ *ASD & Sensitive Scalp Friendly*

Hey Curlies,✨

Don't be a stranger comment down below! How are you?! I've been maintaining and realizing I am human I wasn't meant to be 100% perfect. We're all a little work in progress😏. April celebrates Autism Awareness Month. I must say I am loving the knowledge and info that is presented to communities. Today I saw a black woman earn her BCBA and a lot of other relational #Autism reels/tiktoks. I love that my algorithm has pushed me to the Autism mom side and just autism in general. I relate so much as a Autism mom💖. I understand the appointments, expectations, worries, and proud mommy moments.🧩 My daughter is my little side kick I learn so much about her personality. I never gave up on her receiving speech therapy and continue to work with her social skills. Please work with your child and become an advocate for ASD. That brings me to tonight's blogspot post, Wash Day for Kids *ASD & Sensitive Scalp Friendly*. Tonight I have 5 tips to help support wash day for kiddos with ASD & sensitive scalp aka tender headed.

Wash day can feel overwhelming for kids with sensory sensitivities or a tender scalp, but with the right approach, it can become calmer and even comforting. Here are 5 supportive tips:

1. Create a predictable routine 🛁
Kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder often feel safer when they know what to expect. Use the same steps every wash day (detangle → wash → condition → style). You can even use a simple visual schedule or talk them through each step beforehand.

2. Prep the hair before water touches it 💧
Always detangle on dry or slightly damp hair using a gentle oil and/or conditioner. This reduces pulling and helps avoid discomfort for tender-headed kids.

3. Be mindful of temperature and pressure 🧊🔥
Use lukewarm water—not too hot or too cold—and keep water pressure low. A detachable shower head or pouring water gently with a cup can feel less overwhelming than direct spray.

4. Use calming distractions 🎧

Let them watch their favorite show, listen to music, or hold a comfort item (fidget toy) during wash day. This shifts focus away from the sensations and builds a more positive association.

5. Choose gentle products and take breaks✨
Use moisturizing, slip-rich conditioners to reduce tugging. If your child gets overwhelmed, pause. Break wash day into smaller parts if needed (detangle one day, wash the next). I recommend Natural Divinity Products collection to help ease wash day. Applying Rose Royce Hair Gel to style the hair helps reduce frizz and tangles.
