Are You Okay? Mental Health and Hair
I hope you all are having a good rest of your week. I am maintaining but looking forward to more me time and less giving in to everyone and anything else. Your personal time is so important, because it allows you to take care of your mental health. This brings me to this week's blog topic: Are You Okay? Mental Health and Hair.
May is Mental Health Awareness month and it is coming to an end. Let's reflect on why mental health is important and how it contributes to your hair's health. Hair breakage and loss can be caused by increased stress. Stress may also lead to depression and anxiety. Mental health disorders can effect day to day activities and increase poor performance. It is important to seek help through a medical provider and therapist.
Here are some treatment options and remedies:
Self care days- Give yourself the love you need. Create a whole hair wash day or spa day. Remember taking care of yourself can also mean doing breathwork, meditation, or a simple favorite show to put you in the best mood. I personally love a self care day, moms with busy schedules don't get to see it often but it is still possible. In the warmer months protein treatments, deep conditions, and supplements are a must! Biotin and collagen me please. 😁
Seeking help through a medical provider or therapist- Help is always necessary. It's ok to not be okay. Receiving good advice from a supportive and logical family member or friend is always good. Just think of talking to a healthy relationship person as lightening the burden. Support is always needed when experiencing changes in mental health and hair. I talked to supportive people when I went through a psoriasis flare up that caused hair loss. My dermatologist also made me feel comfortable enough to ask for advice and help.
I hope you all have found this blog informative. Let me hear from you! Have you ever experienced a stressful moment that effected your hair or mental health? Be sure to comment.
