The summer time is full of hot, humid, and sticky weather. Your hair may experience an extra need for hydration and moisture. Also you may have to accept a lot of frizz and volume. Summer time hair should be fun, simple, free, and daring. Wash and gos are my quick summer time hairstyle. I also enjoy a sleek bun to get me through the day. I have 5 helpful tips to get you through the summer time with fabulous and growing hair.
Tip 1 Learn your Hair Porosity and Hair Type📚:
I cannot stress this enough. This is so important because it will teach you what types of hair products work best for your hair. Your hair type has its own unique DNA it's time you learn it. Low porosity is when your hair does not absorb water easily. High porosity is when you hair easily absorbs water. I have high porosity hair so I understand water based hair products like gel work very well with my hair type.
Tip 2 Frizz is your Friend👯:
I have learned over the years to accept frizz and all of its wonders. That should be in the Curly Rule Handbook lol. Increased frizz is mostly due to the humidity. This is why for some Curlies, straightened hair is often harder to achieve in the summer than fall. I love the 80's big curly hair so frizz has never really bothered me. Up-dos, sleek pony, or braids are hairstyles that help maintain the frizz. I lay my edges with a silk scarf and usually leave it on my hair for 15 to 20 minutes. Once I take the scarf off it leaves the front of my hair sleek. Bobbi pins, hair clips, and scrunches can help you better accept your frizz.
Tip 3 Wet Style Curls ➰:
This is my go to for the summer time. I love a wet flexi rods or perm rod set. Wet curls dry better and help the hairstyle last longer. Please understand wet style curls may not be your go to due to your hair type. I apply the flexi rods in my hair and allow my hair to fully air dry. When my curls are becoming too dull for my liking, I create a curly ponytail look.
Tip 4 Simple At Best😊:
Please note, summer time hairstyles aren't overpriced, boho braids or lace fronts. You can still keep it simple and cute. Especially if you are a constant beach goer or gym rat, simple is best. In the summer time your hair can experience chlorine from pool water, dryness from beach water, and dryness from the beaming sun. A simple wash and go, half up half down look, or crochet braids can help you achieve your best summer time hair.
Tip 5 Accessorize👒:
Summer time means hat season! A beautiful sun hat or even a crochet bandana can spice up your summer hair care routine. The sun can cause your scalp to dry up due to being in the sun for long periods of time. Excessive dryness can cause breakage and weak hair strands. Remember to deep condition and add in a protein treatment this season. Your hair will definitely thank you.
