Technology and Mental Health
Hey Curlies,✨
I hope you all had a productive week. This week is very steady for me and challenging with ongoing demands. This week's blog post I wanted to talk about technology and mental health. I know there are so many articles about how bad technology is for your mental health. I want to talk about the good and bad. Since my Facebook account was hacked in 2023 I have had less Facebook friends. It has also been nearly impossible to keep track of old clients. This has left a little hardship on me as a business owner and my personal life. The good I have noticed is I have lessen some of my death scrolling and internet use. When I use less technology I noticed my mental health improves. I am able to look more within and understand my emotions. Now let's get into Technology and Mental Health.
Everyone has ran into clickbaiters, trolls, and bots. Have you every wondered how that may play on your emotional state. For example, I comment that "Rihanna is the best artist of all time" and a bot may comment "You're clearly an idiot. You should've thought about your pathetic life before commenting". How would I respond. Clearly the bot would get the cursing of its life lol but how would I know it's a bot. I would also feel very upset and stressed that a stranger could be so cruel.
This happens to us everyday. We view content and sometimes the debater on the other end is not even a human. It completely ok to feel stupid (jk). To help lessen the effect it has on your mental health create "screen-time". Screen-time helps lessen what you say and view online. It's a wild world out there and what you go through physically is just about enough. You don't have to set appropriate times you can set certain usage hours. For example, Saturday I am only going to spend three hours on the internet unless I'm reading on kindle or learning a new skill. You must also understand trolls are also people that find pleasure in hearing the literal hatred of other people. Don't let them get to you.😀 Bots will literally try to sell you a scam and clickbaiters can potentially cause a virus.
The benefits that technology has on mental health is self discovery and engagements. You can meet via internet some of the most interesting and creative people. I have engagements with so many dreamers and artists. Some of the content you view can even improve your mental health. For example you may listen to a psychologist on ways to avoid trauma bonding with people. You can also learn how to silence your mind via breathwork/meditation. Another benefit is you can join a group that may improve your mental health. It can be a support or learning group online. Facebook offers good groups to join.
I hope you found this blog post useful I too, am learning to limit technology to better my mental health. Stay safe online and choose you first!
